Mexico’s Crackdown at Its Southern Border, Prompted by Trump, Scares Migrants From Crossing

Through the deal made between the administration and Mexico’s President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, the Mexican government has deployed about 6,500 security forces at its southern border and over 14,000 at its northern border. Activists argue that this plan would decrease the number of people trying to migrate north, but expect that asylum seekers will find more “remote and dangerous migratory pathways.”
