The House Judiciary Committee is launching an investigation into the Trump Administration’s “Migrant Protection Protocol” (MPP) (also known as “Remain in Mexico”), a policy that forces asylum seekers to wait in Mexico while their asylum claims process through the court system.

Committee Chairman, Representative Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.), along with members of the subcommittee focused on immigration and citizenship, wrote a letter to DHS stating that “MPP is inconsistent with the Department of Homeland Security’s statutory authority, while exposing thousands of people to threats of murder, sexual violence, and kidnapping as they are forced to wait in extremely dangerous conditions before their asylum claims may be heard.”
